Won some $ to pay for CLUTCH swag.. and lunch… and toll booths.
On the way home we tried to figure out why Clutch isnt the biggest rock band in the world right now. 200% Solid Rock goodness. They dont make ‘em like that anymore. They tour with everyone (partial list swiped from the website: Deftones, System of a Down, Biohazard, Corrosion of Conformity, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Monster Magnet, Prong, Sepultura, Coheed & Cambria, Fireball Ministry and GWAR.) Clutch has been at it since ‘91. I suspect another 20 years from now Clutch will be up there with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Sabbath and Zeppelin.
I love to tinker with my toys. I love mods and chips and getting stuff to do things it wasn’t meant to do or adding extra features/functionality. I find it greatly satisfying.
Classic case is modding your video game console. Ive soldered a few PS’s back in the day. I have a parallel plug in for mine now. The xbox, which is basically a PC, proved a fertile ground of hacking/modding goodness, including some nice LinuxOptions.
Imagine the glee instilled when I softmodded it three years ago (more modern version HERE). As I tried to add more stuff last winter (specifically Media Center via FTP), I bogged the whole thing up.
It wasn’t so bad. I could still play games on it. With some tinkering I got it back to “factory settings” but reinstalling (updating) a softmod has been pretty problematic. So I figure what the hey, lets really get into it.
After opening up the Xbox, the first thing I decided to do was install a new IDE cable. For under $10 its the best upgrade you can give a xbox. I noticed a considerable decrease in load times and movie playing.. OK.. I only had Splinter Cell in front of me.. since it was what I needed for softmodding and I was still trying to do that)… But hey.. a new cable works wonders.
I never thought I could fill up a 8-10Gb disk up.. but I figure with video streaming and potential net surfing, I’ll need a bit more.. Let the search for a larger compatible HD begin. Once found, I’ll set it up and give it a go and report my findings here.
